INTRODUCTION<\/p>\n\t(Also commonly referred to as Air Guling & Aregoling)
\nAreguling is the closest western surf spot to Kuta.(15-20 minutes by scooter\/car). Mawun is another 20 minutes (scooter\/car) further west from Areguling.
\nThis proximity to Kuta has its advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side it’s peaceful surroundings are in stark contrast to the noise and congestion of Kuta, yet when it’s time to socialise \/dine out \/ go shopping Kuta is just a short distance away. Secondly, Lombok is blessed with many picturesque landscapes but Areguling is right up there among the best.
\nAccommodation wise, many of Areguling accommodation options are positioned on elevated hillsides above the bay giving spectacular views of Aregulings’ padi field dotted countryside and beaches.\u00a0 Many of these hillside accommodation options are high-end, fully staffed villas that accept bookings for the whole villa only.\u00a0 This can make them expensive unless you’re travelling in a large group but if you’re in the market for this type of accommodation it’s an amazing way to experience this area of Lombok.\u00a0 If you’re more in the budget price range as you will see from the listings\u00a0 Areguling also has well priced options to choose from. If you don’t want to hire a scooter Areguling has accommodation options that are within walking distance of the beach. [SEE MAP] To my knowledge Mawun doesn’t have accommodation options close to its beach.
\nOn the negative side, Aregulings’ breaks are very popular with surfers staying at Kuta as well as its’ numerous surf schools so it can get very crowded in the lineup. Then there’s the roads. Once you get off the main roads (Jl. Mawun & Jl. Pariwisata Areguling) Aregulings roads are unpaved and in most instances, in very poor condition, and are often very steep, making scooter travel even more hazardous than usual for the unwary. This is especially so if you’re an inexperienced scooter rider or have partaken in drinking activities at one of Kutas’ fine drinking establishments. So, for those staying in this part of Lombok – take extreme care when riding your scooter. One way to avoid a potential accident or if you don’t want to hire a scooter, most accommodation options have a car shuttle service or can arrange a local driver to take you to Kuta, surfing, exploring etc. Could avoid your holiday turning into a medical nightmare.
\nLastly,\u00a0 Areguling’s beach itself usually has a high level of hawkers \/kids aggressively trying to sell you stuff and the level of rubbish\/beach debris can also be very high.
