A small self-contained surf orientated community that due to its distance from Kuta is not unduly affected by visiting day surfers as much of as the other South Lombok surf breaks. Ekas will definitely be a pleasant surprise for those over or were never into the hustle and bustle of Kuta and were there’s waves right at your doorstep.
Accommodation wise, there’s a good mix and I'm sure there's an option to suit the tastes and budgets of most surfers.  Our accommodation recommendations are listed below.  Yes we listed Innit Hotel even though it will set you back close to $US500 a night. I don't know how many surfers will get to experience it's four star opulence (none of my friends, for sure)  but at least you know its there if you’re coming to Ekas and have heaps of cash in your pocket.
Surf wise, there are two breaks off the main beach (Ekas Inside & Ekas Outside) with outside being best accessed by boat transfer. The gods made it easy to select which break to surf; insides -  beginners to intermediate, outside -  intermediate plus. There is also a shore break for total beginners.  With two main breaks and 20+ accomm options, the maths will tell you it can get busy (and sometimes aggressive) in the lineup. Exploring for new waves is always fun but if you’re searching for a less crowded secret spot that you can call your own in one of Awang Bays secluded coves it's may be best to engage a local surf guide or at least get friendly with one of the local surfers as those elusive secret waves can be tricky to find in this part of the world.
Ekas will definitely have appeal to those that in addition to surfing are keen to do some kite surfing, windsurfing and or paragliding. The nearby Kaliantan Beach (20 mins form Ekas [scooter]) is a highly regarded location for these wind sports. Rentals and instructors are readily available. More details in Lombok - Surfed Out  section.  If you’re new to these sports take my advice -for safety reasons instruction in paragliding & kite surfing are essentially mandatory for beginners. Staying on alternate surf sports, Foil boards can be hired around Ekas but I don't think there are any electric foil boards available for hire.
Ekas has morphed into a completely different village from not that many years ago when Heaven On The Planet and a few basic basic homestays were the only accommodation options in Ekas. But hey, that's Indo.
